UConn's Shabazz Napier has been named the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending February 16, 2014. Napier led the Huskies to a pair of wins last week, averaging 20.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. He shot 52.2 percent from the field (12-for-23), including 46.2 percent from downtown (6-for-13 from beyond the arc) and 78.6 percent from the free throw line (11-for-14 from the charity stripe).

On Saturday, he scored a career-high 34 points—the most by an American Athletic Conference player in a league game—with five rebounds, four assists and four steals in an 86-81 overtime win against No. 20/22 Memphis. The 6-0 senior point guard from Roxbury, MA, added seven points, five rebounds and four assists in just 18 minutes in an 83-40 win against USF. With the two wins, the Huskies moved up from No. 24 to No. 11 in both major national polls.

In addition, last Thursday Napier, who leads the Huskies in points, rebounds and assists, was named to the mid-season Top-30 list of the Naismith Men's Player of the Year Award by the Atlanta Tip-Off Club. The Naismith Award is annually given to the nation's best college basketball player.

The Huskies next game will be on Thursday night when they travel to Philadelphia to take on Temple. Tip-off is at 9 p.m., and the game will be televised on ESPN2.
