Napa director Sofia Coppola's excellent year

Director Sofia Coppola married musician/singer Thomas Mars of Phoenix this summer in Italy.  Her film Somewhere opened in theaters last May.  Suffice to say, it’s been a banner year.

Her history in film conjures up images, cameo appearances in Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders and The Godfather III.  Opposed to deliberate ambitious stratagems to be a serious actor, to be perceived as a serious actor and to take liberties to become a serious actor it was as if she, as a young woman, just wanted to have fun.  From an outsider’s perspective that might seem amateur and to be fair it is but so what of it?  From a child’s vantage, that seems totally befitting.  And when in a position to weigh the two, product vs. people, the latter is just and appropriate.

As a director, her armoire includes Lick the Star, The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette. She’s managed to separate herself by adding hope to her stories, more light, more air, more dream.  That makes her story far more human as well.

The spirit of the Sofia wines is luminous, elegant, and fun.  The images communicates an introspect approach to production.  In all her work, only Sofia’s films impress feminine fragility, protected by intelligence.  They are cinematic, dramatic confined to only the finest actors whose own works comparatively are underexposed. They are poignant, thoughtful, expressive Coppola brands that can be framed and hung with galor.

With her good fortune she’ll continue her success in the direction which enables her to grow.   Many fans await her next project in merriment even as they wish her family (especially the first year in matrimony) good times and excellent health. Salud!
