Napa celebrates Women of the Vine

It is fitting that an event celebrating Napa winemaker women is held during Women’s History Month and on International Women’s Day, Saturday March 8th.

Founded by acclaimed author, Deborah Brenner, Women of the Vine, an idea that evolved from her book, is now the first-of-its-kind alliance of women vintners. The book, born during a turning point in her life, gave her the opportunity to embark in a journey of self-discovery inspired by the stories of success from women behind Napa wines.

Various sources indicate that women constitute between 55% and 65% of the US wine consumption market. It is most suitable to celebrate the women behind the wines that most likely will be enjoyed by.….you guessed it….women.

This year, Women of the Vine partnered with the leading national women’s lifestyle magazine, MORE, to start a first-of-a-kind wine club called MORE Uncorked®, which exclusively features wines made by the extraordinary women winemakers and winery owners of California.

In 2011, Women of the Vine proudly became the first and only winery partner of Farm Aid founded by Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp and Neil Young. Women of the Vine give ongoing donations to Farm Aid to support keeping America’s family farmers on the land.

The Women of the Vine Grand Tasting Event sponsored by MORE Uncorked will unite more than thirty of Napa Valley’s finest women winemakers and proprietors for an exclusive tasting and discussion. The event will take place on Saturday, March 8 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM PST at the Meritage Resort and Spa, in Napa, CA.

Participating vintners include Heidi Barrett, La Sirena; Stephanie Putnam, Raymond Vineyards; Julianne Laks, Cakebread Cellars; Sara Fowler, Peju Province Winery and Vineyards;
Katie Madigan, St. Francis Winery; Elizabeth Pressler, Elizabeth Spencer Wines; Alicia Ysais, HandCraft Artisan Collection; Stacy Clark, Charles Krug Winery; Sonja Magdevski, Casa Dumetz Wines; Susan Lueker & Megan Schofield, SIMI; Kelly Fields, Joseph Phelps;
