The Capital Region and the Hudson Valley are sometimes known as the Silicon Valley of the east coast. The Silicon Valley is on the west coast of America, around and in San Francisco, known for its silicon chip innovations and manufacturing. Also home too many large technology corporations. Schools that teach nanotech and computer technology, and large technology businesses around and in the Capital Region make these areas similar. IBM has facilities up and down the Hudson River, as well as General Electric, as well as manufacturing companies that produce technology based materials like wires to carry electricity at faster currents by reduced temperature materials.
Local Colleges are offering classes in computer and nanotechnology. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is a technology based school in Rensselaer. The Hudson Valley Community College offers Computer and Networking programs as well as alternative and renewable fuels, and semi-conductor and wind technology. HVCC is also building a tech-smart facility in Malta that will offer technology based courses. Schenectady County Community College offers classes in Computer Science and Networking, also alternative energy, nanotechnology and battery storage technology. Fulton-Montgomery Community College offers classes in alternative energy and computer science.
U Albany College of Nano-scale Science and Engineering boasts the most advanced research enterprise in the academic world. They hold events like Nano-career Day, and community day for a tour of current nano-technologies being researched by their school. At some recent events they had an event for a middle senior high school to explore how nanotechnology is incorporated and used for other career fields and sciences.
On Saturday November 5th they held a community day that had a turn-out of over 1,200 people for a tour of their complex. They showed cutting edge breakthroughs in healthcare energy and electronics. In addition, CNSE will launch a unique display at Crossgates Mall in Albany, "NanoQuin World," which will show the many ways in which nanotechnology has become a large part of today's society.
