Nancy Pelosi: Founders would approve of Obamacare mandate

While speaking to reporters about President Obama's decision to unilaterally extend the employer mandate, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., implied the founders would approve of the individual mandate, BixPac Review reported Sunday.

“The administration announced another delay of the employer mandate on Obamacare or the Affordable Care Act,” a reporter told Pelosi. “Do you think that opens up some wiggle room for Democrats to vote to delay the employee mandate that the employees are now required to buy, and if not, why not?”

“No, it is a completely different thing,” Pelosi said before falling back on the founders.

“[T]he law is very sound policy. To go to back to our founders once again, they sacrificed it all for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This bill, the Affordable Care Act, is about a healthier life, the liberty to pursue your happiness. That is solid policy, and the mandate is central to that,” she added.

A post at the conservative Heritage Action, however, strongly disagreed.

"It is extremely unlikely that the Founders had anything remotely close to Obamacare in mind when they were drafting the Constitution and setting up the government," Catherine Rosario wrote.

Instead of celebrating Obamacare, Heritage added, the founders are more likely rolling in their graves as the massive law unfolds.

"Obamacare is yet another expansion of the administrative state, where federal agencies and bureaucrats have an increasing amount of control of the intimate details of our daily decisions and lives," Rosario added.

A large number of Americans would also contend the law does not provide for a healthier and happier life as Pelosi claims.

A college instructor in Arkansas who wished to remain anonymous due to what he called a liberal administration in favor of Obamacare, told Examiner his aunt, who suffers from terminal cancer, was informed she would no longer receive the expensive treatments that have so far allowed her to have a good quality of life when she was placed under Obamacare at the first of the year.

In six weeks, he said, his aunt has gone from being active and able to drive, cook, clean, and visit friends to being mostly home-bound.

"These stories you read -- I can assure you that they are 100% true," he said. "My aunt is living proof ... living for now, anyway."
