The name for the newest baby elephant at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park (formerly the San Diego Wild Animal Park) has been chosen, and it's Ewanti, Zoo officials reported on Thursday.
Emanti means water in Siswati, the language of its native Swaziland.
The baby male elephant born May 12 reportedly enjoys splashing around in the water that is part of the elephant enclosure.
Emanti won out over Usutu, a large river in Swaziland or Mnakabo, which means ``their brother.'' All the names were voted on in an online poll.
The water-based moniker appears to be the best choice for the little beast, according to an online report from Curtis Lehman, an animal care supervisor at the park.
Whenever his mother Umoya goes into the pool, Emanti follows, displaying a greater comfort with the water than other baby elephants of his age, Lehman said.
He was observed not only swimming around, but doing that "trunk-periscope thing, which is just hilarious to observe," according to Lehman.
