If Bradley Manning was free, he would undoubtedly participate in the Occupy Wall Street movement. Instead, he is occupying a prison cell, having endured the humiliation of being stripped naked and deprived of basic human rights. Our lawmakers want Bradley Manning dead. What he strived to accomplish is quite simple: Manning wanted to bring corruption to an end. He wanted to bring the truth to the American public.
Classified embassy cables, the release of which was attributed to Manning, have exposed the first world’s domination and exploitation of third world countries. They’ve illuminated secret dealings and joint war-mongering by the government of the United States and their longtime alliances in the Arab world. They've shown that our government is well aware of Saudi Arabia’s role as the prime source for financing of terror groups, which does not stop the U.S. from jointly warmongering and maintaining a cozy relationship with the Saudis, largely for the sake of Saudi oil and money. They’ve exposed massive corruption in the Afghan government. They’ve laid bare the contempt of American diplomats towards the governments of other countries, with unflattering descriptions of world leaders ranging from “alpha dog” to “Adolf Hitler”. They’ve demonstrated how the U.S. uses its embassies as part of a global espionage network.
As the cables were published, the White House reacted in a predictable way. Instead of blaming the authors of questionable embassy cables or investigating deaths in the “Collateral Murder” video, our fearless leaders condemned the whistleblower who dared to challenge the status quo. The official statement claimed that disclosures in question “put at risk our diplomats, intelligence professionals, and people around the world who come to the US for assistance in promoting democracy and open government.” The State Department's legal advisor claimed that “the lives of countless innocent individuals” were placed in jeopardy. In reality, the only life that was jeopardized as a consequence of the disclosures was that of Bradley Manning.
Since the days of the Nixon administration, our government has been prosecuting, investigating, harassing and otherwise destroying whistleblowers. These acts of retaliation were anything but random - to the contrary, they followed the protocol outlined in the infamous Malek Manual. Whistleblower protection laws have been constructed in a way that rendered them not only utterly useless, but in fact damaging to truth-tellers and beneficial to government agencies.
The war on whistleblowers continues to intensify, with the two-faced participation of the mainstream media. Whistleblower stories are either completely ignored or covered in such a fashion that would discourage any potential truth-tellers from stepping forward for fear of facing the same dreadful outcome. This carefully planned approach is no longer working. We the people have been awakened.
Powers that be want to make Bradley Manning feel exactly the same way his alleged disclosures made them feel – stripped naked. The importance of his revelations, as well as his stated motivation, cannot be overstated. Bradley Manning pulled down the Emperor’s pants. He wanted to change the world. Manning’s main concern in releasing the video that exposed the shootings of the AP journalists was whether it would really make a difference. It certainly changed the world of public opinion. Now it has to keep on changing until the Bradley Mannings of the world are safe and free.
