Naked Greens opened Saturday in Wilton, at 239 Danbury Rd, offering 12 different soups, an endless number of salad combinations and a grilled cheese sandwich bar. Founded by Wilton resident Victor Melendez, this is his second Naked Greens store, the first being in Norwalk (Sono).
We spoke to Melendez Saturday about his new restaurant. While there are plenty of meat options among the soups and salads, the restaurant remains Vegan friendly, with at least two vegan soups each day as well as lots of vegan possibilities among the salads.
Their soups will always include the top 5 soups: Naked Chicken Noodle, Wholesome Chicken Rice, Savory Spinach White Bean, Beefed Up Chili, and Natural New England Chowder. Their soups are made daily in small batches on the spot, and Saturday also included: Tomato Basil, Artichoke Chicken Spinach, Vegetable Lentil, Southwest Chicken and Rice, and Turkey Chili.
They make your salad to order. You can select from one of 19 standard salads which include Awesome Avocado, Beef Generation, Quinoa Kicker, Savory Seared Tuna, Thai Temptation, Caprese Crunch, Majestic Mandarin and Devilled Egg Salad. Or you can just select from one or more of the many lettuces and then specify which of a vast array of ingredients you want them to add.
Naked Greens also offers 8 different fruit smoothies (including Four Berry) and 7different Raw Veggie Juice Frappes, like Red-Green Fusion and Carrot Explosion.
You can dine on your soup, salad or sandwich at their comfortable tables or take the food home with you. They also provide an extensive catering menu of salad and wrap platters. Melendez noted that he went to great trouble to provide biodegradable utensils and containers so both the salads and the restaurant are really green!
This restaurant, at the site of the former Soup Alley, looks like a winner to us. Not only can you stop in for lunch, you can pick up your dinner there, too, since they are open Monday through Saturday from 11am to 8pm. Sundays they are open from 11am to 4:30pm. Melendez noted that later this spring they plan to add some “healthy morning options” as well.
A terrific addition to the Wilton, Route 7 area.
