Nails trends from New York Fashion Week

Runway looks aren't always easy to replicate at home, but nail art is an easy and inexpensive way that people can express themselves.

Here are some of the Fall 2012 nail looks that you can do now:

The half-moon nail isn't going anywhere.

LAMB- Color Club used only 1 color on the half moon to give the appearance of a chipped, rock-n-roller look.  Killer Curves was painted on the bottom half of the nail and no color was used on the top.

Emerson- The Red Door Spas nail team used Illamasqua colors for an edgy pastel nail look.  Velocity was used on the entire nail, and then a tiny half-moon of DWS was painted towards the bottom of each nail.

Deep burgundy nails, with feminine pink undertones:

Catherine Malandrino- CND switched it up by using 1 layer of Plumville (the pink tone) first, and followed it up with 1 layer of Dark Ruby (the deeper tone) over top.

Jenny Packham- Essie's Linkin Park After Dark was the dark base color, topped off with a sheer pink called Cherry Pop.

Special effects:

Kate Spade- Deborah Lippmann's polka dots are easy to recreate with 1 coat of Fade To Black as the base and random painted dots using I'm Not That Innocent (a pale pink, rather than using a white shade).  Lippmann recommends letting the dots dry for a few minutes before applying a topcoat to preserve their round shape and prevent smudging.

Whitney Eve- The nail look this young designer went for was 1 coat of Zoya nail polish in Kristen (creamy grey/blue) and 2 coats of Maisie, a special effects glitter top coat with blue flecks.

Designer collaborations:

Tracy Reese- Reese and Sally Hansen have been collaborating on nail polish shades for 13 seasons at NY Fashion Week.  When fall rolls around her 2 newest colors (Scarab and Copperhead) will be available to the public for purchase.
