Nail tip Tuesday: Winter moisture

See also

Do you notice your fingernails splitting, cracking or chipping more than usual during the winter? It’s likely that you’re experiencing these nail issues due to dried out nails. You can reduce or even completely stop the nail damage simply by providing your hands and fingernails with more moisture.

Moisturizing is especially important during the cold, dry months of winter. Many people amp up their moisturizing routines for their skin and hair, but forget to expand that care to their fingernails. You must also provide extra moisture to your hands and cuticles to maintain the health of your fingernails in the winter as well.

Moisture keeps nails hydrated and flexible. So nails that are well moisturized are less likely to break or experience damage.

Hydrate your fingernails by moisturizing them properly. Apply a generous amount of hand lotion or cream and massage it into your hands and fingernails.

Do this periodically throughout the day, especially after washing your hands and anytime you notice dryness. For extra moisture, you can use a cuticle oil of your choice to massage into your cuticles before bed each night.
