Nail art is its own accessory and has its place on every red carpet thanks to the recent trend of mani cams. The 66th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Seth Meyers, that aired Monday night on NBC had an array of nails fashion as seen on Heidi Klum and Zooey Deschanel. Celebrity nail artist Tom Bachik for L’Oréal Paris broke down the nail art designs to the Hair and Nails Examiner that he used on two of televisions hottest celebs.
The 2014 Emmys from the red carpet at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles saw hot hair trends of updos, braids and textured waves topped off by gorgeous makeup to illuminate the best beauties in Hollywood. Nail art has become a must-have fashion accessory with nail colors and designs selected to complement the fashion trends.
Tom Bachik for L’Oréal Paris designed the nails of both Heidi Klum, 41, and Zooey Deschanel, 34. The “America's Got Talent” judge wore the hot color trend of the 2014 Emmys, which according to her celebrity nail artist was “a gorgeous Chantilly red- orange color.” Because Klum’s gown was “very bright and summery, yet clean,” Bachik “wanted her nail look to be fresh, so that her dress stood out as the pop of color.”
To create Heidi Klum’s “simple, classic and glamorous” Emmy manicure, Tom first shaped the nails using a file in natural rounded look, which he says, “Elongates the hand, making it ultra-feminine.” Next, apply a summer, fresh pink nude shade like L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in Doutzen’s Nude and top with L’Oreal Paris Top of the Line Top Coat “for a polished, fresh finish.” It is always recommended to use an oil to keep nails and cuticles “healthy and hydrated.” Bachik suggests massaging L’Oréal Paris Age Perfect Glow Renewal Facial Oil all over the hands and nails.
For Zooey Deschanel’s Emmy manicure, Tom was again inspired by her “super-hot pink dress.” The “New Girl” actress had a more detailed mani, although Bachik “wanted to create a simple and classic look, playing up the tone-on-tone style.” They opted for a nail design that was “clean and traditional, but with a fun, modern twist.”
To replicate the “reverse moon look” worn by Deschanel at the 2014 Emmys that is “architectural, straight and very sleek,” polish each nail with a baby pink nail color, such as L’Oréal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in I Pink I’m in Love. To fashion the design, place electric pink nail art tape about three quarters of the way down the nail in a horizontal line, and then apply L’Oreal Paris Top of the Line Top Coat to seal. Follow with Tom’s recommendation from above of a few drops of the facial oil massaged into the nails and hands, and voila, red carpet nails worthy of the Emmys.
