Naeem Khan brings the grandeur and glamour of old world to New York Fashion Week with his Fall 2013 collection. With heavily embroidered, beaded, appliquéd and lace stamped gowns glimmering with sequins and crystals, his entire collection tells the tale of splendor, reminiscent of allure of old Hollywood and enchantment and opulence of his Indian heritage.
The velvet gowns are embroidered with gold threads (that looks like a very traditional Indian embroidery form dabka or dapka). The gold, black and bronze beaded gowns in sleek column style are right up the alley of Hollywood stars looking for their next red carpet gown. Naeem Khan is a designer who believes in the painstaking, hand-labor of detailed embroidery and embellishment and his artistry shines through the sublime, stately gowns, evening dresses and structured pants and blouses. The color palette is dark and saturated - black, royal teal, gold, copper and ruby red - to let the ornate details take the center stage. One red column gown with gold embroidered cape looked right off the folktales of Indian Maharajas and Princesses.
There were sheer nude gowns encrusted with metallic beads, black column gown with fireworks- like gold embroidered jacket, stamped-lace and brocade gowns and high contrast black and white embroidered dresses that were a delight to the eye.
True to his opulent style, Naeem Khan's Fall 2013 collection is a dazzling, exquisite, all-out glam affair. The entire front row was buzzing with star power. Among the A-listers who attended the show were Matt Damon and his wife Lucia as well as actresses Brooke Shields, Taraji P Henson and Vanesa Hudgens.
