A 15-year-old boy, Nehemiah Griego, is in custody and charged with the shooting deaths of his parents and his three young siblings. The shootings took place yesterday in the boy’s rural N.M. home just south of Albuquerque.
The teen has been charged with murder plus additional charges resulting in the deaths of his five family members, all of whom suffered multiple gunshot wounds
The murdered family members have been identified as Greg Griego, 51, his wife Sara Griego, 40, and the couple's three young children: a 9-year-old boy, Zephania Griego, and daughters Jael Griego, 5, and Angelina Griego, 2, according to FOX News.
Several guns were found in the family home, including a semi-automatic military-style rifle.
Police described the scene inside the home as horrific.
Today, Bernalillo Co. sheriff's spokesperson, Lt. Sid Covington, said “… we're to the meticulous points of processing the scene and collecting physical evidence, and this is a vast scene with a lot of physical evidence."
The deceased father, Greg Griego, was a chaplain in the community who worked with area firefighters and who also volunteered as a chaplain at the county jail.
15-year-old Nehemiah Griego has been charged with two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in the deaths of his family members.
The police won’t be releasing any additional details regarding the shootings until a planned news conference on Tuesday.
A neighbor, Peter Gomez, said:
"It's a horrible thing. You see all this stuff that happens all over the country, the shootings in the schools and theaters, and then it happens right here. It's sad."
