N.H. man charged with burglary, assault, and cruelty to animals

Portsmouth, N.H. – According to wmur.com, Police responded to a burglary call at about 1:30 a.m.

Police said a man broke into the house through the back door, attacked two occupants and struck their dog with a club or a pipe.

The victims, a male and a female, were taken to the Portsmouth Hospital for treatment, police said.
Detectives said 47-year-old Terrence Hartley was taken into custody near the burglarized home. According to police, Hartley was in illegal possession of cocaine at the time of his arrest.

Hartley is charged with one count of felony burglary, five counts of first-degree assault, one count of possession of a controlled drug and one misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals. He is being held on $125,000 cash bail and will be arraigned in the Portsmouth Court on Monday.
