RR Auction in N.H. will put a previously unpublished photograph of a teenage Diana Spencer believed to be from 1979 or 1980, on the auction block, Gossip Cop reported on Friday, Jan. 4. The auction of the photo that was deemed “to hot to publish” back in 1981 will go up for auction on Jan. 17. RR Auction in N.H. will end the auction on Jan. 24.
The photo, which has “NOT TO BE PUBLISHED” scrawled across it shows Diana Spencer with an unidentified man and a bottle of whiskey while on a ski vacation. The photo remained hidden for over three decades in the archives of the Daily Mirror, which purchased the photograph in February 1981, just after Diana Spencer’s engagement to Charles, Prince of Wales was announced on February 24, 1981.
Reportedly the “intimate” photo was originally buried to avoid any appearance of scandal as Prince Charles prepared to wed Diana Spencer and make her Princess Diana.
The private Caren Archive is putting the “rare photo” up for auction through RR Auction in New Hampshire, giving the public its “first glimpse at a ‘new’ picture of one of the world’s most photographed women.”
Diana Frances Spencer married Charles Philip Arthur George, the Prince of Wales on July 29, 1981. Princess Diana died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997. The Prince and Princess of Wales oldest son William, Duke of Cambridge and his wife, Katherine, Duchess of Cambridge, are expecting their first child, perhaps sometime in late June or early July 2013. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were married on April 29, 2011.
