N.E. Atlanta Huggers to send free goodies to deployed Georgia military

Would your deployed military service member appreciate a box of fun and helpful items sent right to them, free of charge? Most would! That's why Cathy Schulte, President of the N.E. Atlanta Huggers, along with the Air Carriers Purchasing Conference, is collecting the addresses of locally attached and deployed military service members. According to Cathy, Their "ACPC Gives Back Charity Drive" is collecting postage and items to fill and mail 700 care packages for Georgia’s deployed troops.

Cathy says, "The ACPC wants to show their appreciation to our military service men and women by collecting postage as well as items such as candy, socks, toiletries and other comforts from home which the Hugger's will pack up and ship to any military service member who sends in their address." They hope to have enough items to send to 700 addresses of deployed members.

Collecting these addresses is an "enormous undertaking" and one that Cathy Schulte and her N.E. Atlanta Huggers group is sure to accomplish. Having done so in the past, Cathy and the Huggers group, which meets monthly at Berkmar Church in Lilburn, regularly collects items and monetary donations in order to mail boxes to any deployed member who requests one.

While many deployed service members are supported by loving family and friends back home, many are not. And while the military provides for the needs of their military men and women, the emotional support from receiving such a gift from home is immeasurable. Basic items such as drink mixes and beef jerky, an especially coveted item, and other things such as soaps and small medical supplies offer a tangible means of support and a reminder that those who serve to secure our freedom are appreciated and remembered. Many members receive more than one box and then share them with the rest of their deployed members.

If you have a loved one serving in the Georgia Reserves, Air Force, Army, Marines or Coast Guard who is serving overseas with at least 6 weeks left on their tour, who you think would like to have one or more boxes of goodies sent to them by the N.E. Atlanta Huggers and the ACPC’s pack up event, please contact Cathy Schulte at
