Ecclesiastes 11:4-6 (NLT)
Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest. Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things. Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don’t know if profit will come from one activity or another—or maybe both.
When a farmer plants a seed in the ground, he knows the process of growth that will occur. He understands how a seed produces a seedling that breaks through the ground growing and maturing into a plant that will produce a harvest. He knows about how long it will take based on experience and the atmospheric conditions conducive to successful cultivation. He knows this based on the scientific studies of botanists that has been recorded over time. Some farmers use the Old Farmers’ Almanac as a guide. They rely on the generations of farmers before them who have passed on information based on one’s opinion for successfully farming. But no matter how many seeds that are put into the ground or how many scientific studies are conducted – no one really knows what makes that seed know to grow. Just a like a tiny baby in its mother’s womb, once it is planted in the right place – it grows into its full potential. Having five children of my own who I bore naturally, I am well aware of the process called reproduction but who told each little heart to begin beating. Scientifically human beings feel superior but there is always a limitation in our understanding. The complexity of any human being rules out evolution as the creative process by which humanity exists. Before there was anything, God was there. The Triune Being that we call Father, Son and Spirit existed before anything else. When He created the world, He was thinking of you. When God put it all into motion, He created us to rule and reign having dominion over the world and everything in it. Everything on the planet was there for our use. Everything according to the Plan of God and His Will. There are no mysteries to God just memories. The mystery is solved or is it…
Farmers do not wait on perfect weather to plant at least successful ones. They weather the storms to produce the next harvest that is directly connected to their well-being and prosperity. When the harvest is ready to be taken in, they cannot let storm clouds delay it or the fruit may waste away and rot on the ground. This is true of believers. If we wait for a perfect life to serve God, we will miss the opportunity all together. If we wait for the storm to pass to praise His Name, the words may very well die on our tongue. Yes, God had a perfect plan for our life but we chose something else. We believed the lie of the enemy and chose to go our own way separated from God. God gave us the whole world minus one tree. The only thing that God asked was that we not eat from the Tree of Knowledge. So that is exactly what we did the first chance that we got…now look at us. We are a product of disobedience and rebellion against God. Now we make our own plans hoping to have the desires of our heart, but who put those dreams in your head and desires in your heart? God did! It is lined up with Eternity that remains there too (Ecclesiastes 3:11) whether or not you have a relationship with the Lord it does not matter. God created you! He loves you! He has a plan for you! He is waiting for you!
I Corinthians 2:6-10 (NLT)
Yet when I am among mature believers, I do speak with words of wisdom, but not the kind of wisdom that belongs to this world or to the rulers of this world, who are soon forgotten. No, the wisdom we speak of is the mystery of God—his plan that was previously hidden, even though he made it for our ultimate glory before the world began. But the rulers of this world have not understood it; if they had, they would not have crucified our glorious Lord. That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.
I want to know God’s Plan for my life. No, I mean I want to know every part of it in vivid detail. This is because I do not have enough faith to trust the Lord. It’s true. God has a plan for my life it is a good plan with a future and hope. (Jeremiah 29:11) If we believed God at His Word (finally) that would be enough, but we don’t. When things don’t work out the way that we “think” they should, many will turn and walk away from the Lord or pitch a fit. They are frustrated and confused because He did not do what they expected Him to do according to the way they thought that He should do it. In this journey of our life for the last year, God has healed our son of cancer four separate times. Each time, I rejoiced that it was over and we could all move on to be thrown back into this dilemma again and again. Why? Now as we end the fourth round of treatment, our son does not have cancer in his body. But the doctors have no hope that it will not return but instead our devising a plan to go on offense rather than defense not waiting for it to rear its ugly head again but fight it while it sleeps. I am overwhelmed by the mystery of God be played out in our life. It seems so unfair. It seems so wrong in so many ways. It appears to the world that we are living a tragedy not triumphantly. Yesterday, the kid had his first of two doses of chemotherapy that would end this cycle once and for all. He is doing so well it can only be attributed to the Lord. Yet in that moment, I did not feel joy or closure or victory just numb and suspended in time. How long will it last this time? With shorter intervals noted, the doctor scheduled follow-up in two short weeks with a bone marrow consultation that I was expecting to have occurred already. It’s not over. Why Lord? Why be so secretive and not give me a glimpse of the road ahead? The answer is easily found in His Word. God has a plan. It is a good one with a future and hope. This is true – God has already told me that our son will live and not die. I am totally on board with this obviously. However, God kept His Greatest Mystery hidden until Jesus died and rose again. Why? If they would have recognized Jesus as the Messiah, they would not have killed Him. If Jesus had not died, God’s Plan for you and I would have died instead. God would not have it so He kept it a secret until it was fulfilled. If God shows us His Plan before we are ready, we will find some way to mess it up. We have a guaranteed track record to back it up. This is exactly what God is doing in my life and probably yours. How do we hang on until fulfillment when the road ahead is dark and lonely? How do we keep walking when weariness and weakness overtake us? Everything is going according to plan, His Plan – you must only stick with the plan.
Ephesians 1:9-11 (NLT)
God has now revealed to us his mysterious plan regarding Christ, a plan to fulfill his own good pleasure. And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth. Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.
We must learn to work the Plan of God to find fulfillment our life rather than to know the Plan of God for our life. Rather than spending all our time trying to figure out how to make it happen, we must only seek to know Jesus Christ more and more. Jesus Christ died for our sins that God’s Plan for reunification and fulfillment of His People could stand forever. United with Jesus Christ grants us our inheritance that was set aside for us before we were born. God’s Plan is always for our benefit. He makes all things work together for the “good” of those who love Him. (Romans 8:28) Do you know that God is good? Before you agree, do you know that God is always doing good things for you? While nodding yes, inspect your heart’s response to this question. You will never know the Goodness of God until you discover the Love of Jesus Christ. Otherwise, He is only judge and jury. But we were adopted when we accepted Jesus Christ, so now we have an inheritance that requires only maintaining our connection to Jesus Christ. Salvation and righteousness allow us to access our inheritance in advance. You will never have the “endless treasure” promised without the Grace of God which is His Plan. (Ephesians 3:8-12) Our inability to accept His Gift causes us to try to get God’s Results doing things our own way. God says in our weakness, we are made strong yet we try to do supernatural things in our natural strength every single day somehow trying to impress All-Powerful God. He tells us to trust Him yet we only trust what we can see or do ourselves. We do not rely on God for what we need but work three jobs and budget endlessly trying to find wealth in spiritual poverty. The only way to fulfill God’s Plan for our life is through a thriving relationship with Jesus Christ. He is the Mystery of God revealed in our life. His Spirit tells us God’s Secrets but you will never fully know what God is doing unless you trust Him to do it without your help. Grace is our ticket into the Presence of God to come boldly and claim our inheritance. There is nothing more for me to do but watch for and wait on the Lord.
Ephesians 3:14-19 (NLT)
When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
What do I do in the meantime? I am tired of walking this road. The journey seems endless. How do I learn to trust God’s Plan even when it is a mystery to me? The Love of Jesus Christ is not easily understood as it defies human logic. If I could learn the parameters of God’s Love for me and the endless potential of His Goodness in my life, then I would not be so anxious or filled with worry. Doubts would melt away as confident hope flourished like a well-nurtured seed of faith breaking through my mountain and making a way for me into His Presence once more. Rather than knowing all the details of God’s Mysterious Plan for my life, if I remain concentrated on His Great Love for me faith will arise keeping me anchored in confident hope that will allow me to experience ALL that God has for me. I will want what He has planned because His Unfailing Love is better than life so it will become my heart’s desire. The Great Mystery of Faith is Jesus Christ. Get to know Him and you will know God’s Deepest Secrets. (I Timothy 3:16) The enemy wants you to think that you are missing something better by waiting on the Lord to work out every detail of your life. God’s Plan is to lavish you with His Great Love and He intends to make it happen. It is our job to position ourselves by faith and remain there to experience all that God has for us. It means that you will still sow in unfavorable conditions. This is faithfulness. You will wait for that seed of faith to grow. It is called commitment. When it is time to harvest, you will choose to do so even if it is in the middle of a raging storm. This is called obedience. It is all based on love – His Great Love for us. We are God’s Masterpiece – He does not call us a doodle on a napkin worthy of the garbage, but a Masterpiece! He sees us as worthy of collection, keeping and preserving. We need to see ourselves as God does. We need to fully accept His Gift of Love.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NLT)
For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.
God has a Good Plan for my life with a future and hope. It is limitless in potential overflowing from His Great Love for me. It is my sole responsibility to believe that this is true in every situation and circumstance of my life even when faced with great mysteries. God’s Plans for me are forever not only reaching into Eternity, but beginning before time began. (Psalm 33:10-11) This means nothing is left out including the past, present and future. God’s Plan for my life is full of details too numerous to list. They are infinite and beyond human perception and reasoning. (Psalm 40:5) I will never fully comprehend everything good God is working in my life so I must only focus on Him to have it. Everything in my life is serving God’s Plan. Every single detail is “serving” God’s Plan which is good containing a future and hope which means it is only by faith in Jesus Christ that I will find it. I can make all the plans that I want and the Lord will guide me to what is right. If I commit every action of my life to Jesus Christ, I will be successful as our intentions are unified. (Proverbs 16:1-3) God’s Plan is active on both sides of the line of good and evil so I don’t have to worry about other people in interrupting God’s Plan and Process for my life. (Revelation 17:17) The Lord’s Purpose prevails even when I fall short or fail. (Proverbs 19:21) This is the purpose of His Grace. Every moment of my life has been carefully detailed and outlined by God for one purpose. His Purpose is that I will fall back in love with Him and return to right-standing so He can fulfill my purpose in life. (Psalm 139:16) My unwillingness to wait for the Lord or accept His Gift does not give way to my own successful endeavors. My plan will never work. God’s Plan will always come to pass. (Proverbs 21:30) He does not ever change His Mind. (Numbers 23:17) God has a plan for your life. It is a good plan. He will give you a future and hope if you will only accept His Love by faith producing confident hope that allows us to remain faithful until it comes to pass in our life.
What can I do to make God’s Plan known in my life? Live for fulfillment. You cannot make it happen but you can experience it. Pray and He will listen. God wants a relationship with you. You are His Child. If you are a parent, think of your own child and how it felt to hold them in your arms, snuggle with them, kiss them, hug them and be with them. This is how God feels for you. You may say that you would lay down your life for your child. Over the past two years, oh how I have asked the Lord why my son and not me? I would give my life for my children but have never been put to the test. God was and He did. His Love is proven. Prayer builds a relationship with God. It is communication. This is primary to knowing His Deepest Secrets. If you are not talking to Him or listening to Him, how can He tell you anything? Secrets are intimate. They are whispered to a familiar. Are you familiar with God or is He still a mysterious stranger to you? Finally, we must learn to seek God wholeheartedly. Naturally, I have sought the Lord many times for the healing of our son. But my relationship with God was meant for more than this – the salvation of our son is but one small detail in the infinite Goodness that God has intended for my life. He examines our heart for love that is faithful, committed and singular. We must seek the Lord wholeheartedly and line up our motives and intentions with God’s Plan to have all that He has promised and those things that are more than we could think or ask. It is all part of His Plan. It is a good plan. It has a future and hope. It is for me because God loves me and intends for me to have it. Mystery solved!
2 Timothy 1:9 (NLT)
For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.
