There is ongoing speculation about whether this new dangerous virus that reportedly causes kidney failure and acute breathing problems will spread like the 2003 SARS virus.
The 10th case was discovered in the United Kingdom, with British officials confirming on Feb. 11 that the new case of coronavirus, a mysterious disease related to SARS that was first identified last year, has been found. The patient who contracted the virus had reportedly recently traveled to the Middle East and Pakistan and is now in the intensive care unit at a hospital in Manchester.
According to the Christian Post, Coronaviruses have been described as part of a family of viruses behind various ailments including the common cold and SARS. In the 2003 SARS epidemic reportedly killed around 800 people worldwide.
Humans can catch reportedly catch this new coronavirus from animal carriers, including camels and bats. The Christian Post reports that there is no evidence yet that the virus is passed from human contact. All previously identified cases have been linked to the Middle East, but in 2012, the World Health Organization declared that the virus may be more widespread than previously thought and asked that tests be run on anyone with unexplained pneumonia.
