Rey Mysterio is again battling knee problems that find him in a brace and undergoing therapy in hopes of avoiding surgery but that will keep him out of the ring for at least six months. It was announced yesterday that Mysterio had met with famed orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews who advised rest and rehab but noted that surgery may still be a possibility. Andrews noted that if Mysterio had his knee replaced he would be able to resume his career but if there is also damage to his (Mysterio) hip and a replacement there is needed he would no longer be able to wrestle.
Mysterio has been battling with injuries as well as numerous personal problems for the better part of the last year which have kept him out of the ring and in the WWE doghouse. Mysterio had surgery last year and was set to return to the ring when he failed a drug test and was suspended for 60 days due to that being his second Wellness Policy violation.
Sources close to Mysterio have said he is allegedly battling personal demons dealing with addiction problems as well as family issues that have distracted him. While the WWE has stood behind Mysterio and even offered him assistance to deal with his alleged addiction problems the former World Champion has steadfastly refused and the WWE is quickly running out of patience with him.
There are some who believe Mysterio will be released from the WWE and possibly end up in TNA once his non-compete expires. Sources in TNA have said while there is always interest, with Mysterio and his history of injuries plus the salary he would likely demand, the interest is slight.
