The Cleveland Cavaliers announced today that they have waived rookie guard Mychel Thompson. The Cavaliers roster now stands at 14. Thompson was an undrafted rookie out of Pepperdine University. Mychel Thompson is the younger brother of Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors.
Mychel Thompson beat out Manny Harris this preseason to claim the final roster spot. Thompson was quoted to start the season saying “It has been my dream since I was a little kid to play in the NBA. Just to make the team is not my goal. I want to stay in the NBA, I want to stick. I don't want to be here for a little bit."Thompson was a non roster invitee, signed from the Erie BayHawks of the NBADL on December 8,2011.
Thompson played in 5 games for the Cavaliers starting the last 3 games. Thompson has averaged 3.6 points on 29 percent shooting with 1.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 19 minutes per contest.
