The 2014 Capital City PrideFest kicks off tomorrow night in Des Moines' East Village and will run through the weekend. This year's event will feature a parade, a foam party, vendors, live musical performances, Pride Idol, "drag" races, a brunch, and a performance from the Iowa School of Burlesque with the Legendary Saddle Boys. Tickets for the annual event come in the form of wristbands, and they will be $7 at the gate for a single-day pass and $14 for the weekend. You can add in the brunch to the weekend pass for $7 more ($21 altogether). The event's mission is "to promote acceptance, tolerance, and understanding of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community through education, programming, and visibility."

This year's PrideFest will feature musical performances from Des Moines "Stanque Pop" group Madison Ray and All the Single Ladies and Grammy-winning R&B singer Mýa on Saturday night and Minneapolis-based dance/hip hop/rock party band PopRocks on Sunday.

Madison Ray is a singer, songwriter, actor, dancer, and clothing designer. He has performed with the Des Moines Metro Opera, portrayed Tom Collins in the Des Moines Playhouse production of "Rent", been named the RAW Des Moines "Musician of the Year", and founded the LOVE clothing brand. Ray's most recent release, Starship to Mars, was released in 2013. Madison Ray and his "Stanque Pop Experience" All the Single Ladies will open for Mýa at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Mýa won a Grammy in 2002 for "Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals" for her rendition of the Patti LaBelle song "Lady Marmalade". The singer has 2 platinum albums and a gold album to her credit, and she has totaled 6 Top 20 singles. Mýa released a new EP entitled Sweet XVI in April. Mýa will take the stage at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

PopRocks is what you get when you cross a DJ with an arena rock concert and a Broadway show. The group's high-energy shows feature four lead singers and covers dance, rock, pop, hip hop, and other genres. PopRocks will take the stage on Sunday at 3 p.m.
