Huntsville moviegoers can now see the Golden Globe nominee, “My Week with Marilyn” (2011), in local theaters. The critically acclaimed film about classic movie icon Marilyn Monroe is currently playing at the Regal 18 on South Memorial Parkway and at the Rave in Jones Valley. (Check local listings for show times.)
Adapted from the memoirs of Colin Clark, the film stars Michelle Williams as the glamorous but troubled star, who strikes up a friendship with the young Colin (played by Eddie Redmayne) during the filming of “The Prince and the Showgirl” (1957). Kenneth Branagh stars as Monroe’s director and costar, the legendary Shakespearean actor Sir Laurence Olivier. Other familiar faces in the cast include Emma Watson, Judi Dench, Julia Ormond, Toby Jones, and Derek Jacobi.
“My Week with Marilyn” represents a very strong chance for a second Best Actress nomination for Williams in the upcoming Oscar race. The picture joins another awards favorite that also showcases the classic Hollywood era, “The Artist” (2011). Although “The Artist” is not yet playing locally, the impending awards season should soon bring the picture into wide release and onto Huntsville screens.
