“Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on, or by imbeciles who really mean it.” ~ Mark Twain
So . . . what’s wrong with Dick?
Lest you attribute some sort of psychosexual connotation to my question, I’m simply asking, what’s wrong with Richard Bruce ‘Dick’ Cheney, former Vice-President of the United States?
Why would the former VP put himself in front of every available camera and microphone over the past several days to blame the Obama administration for the not unanticipated reversal of fortune in Iraq when the facts of history contradict every point Dick has tried to make?
Dick and his daughter Liz produced a June 18 Wall Street Journal op-ed piece in which they caustically criticize President Obama for not being tough enough on Iraq. Dick and Liz wrote, “Rarely has a U.S. president been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many.”
This from Dick who, on August 25, 2002, said, “Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction.”
This from Dick who, on March 16, 2003, said, “I think things have gotten so bad inside Iraq, from the standpoint of the Iraqi people, my belief is we will, in fact, be greeted as liberators.”
This from Dick who, on October 17, 2003, said, “Saddam Hussein had an established relationship with al Qaeda . . . providing training to al Qaeda members in areas of poisons, gases, and conventional bombs.”
History has proven that Dick Cheney was wrong when he uttered these and too many other similar claims to list here.
Though Dick was in fact so wrong, he actively helped George W. Bush lie America into the 2003 Iraq War, a debacle that not only killed more than 4,000 Americans, injured, maimed, and incapacitated nearly 50,000 U.S. troops, killed and wounded hundreds of thousands of Iraqi men, women, and children, and cost trillions of taxpayer dollars, but also laid the foundation for the current civil war between ISIS and the Maliki government.
Dick Cheney was so utterly wrong about so much at the expense of so many.
You know that Dick was completely wrong on Iraq.
I know that Dick was completely wrong on Iraq.
Everyone, except Dick and Liz, knows that Dick was completely wrong on Iraq.
As Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid so aptly said on June 18, “If there is one thing this country does not need, it is that we should be taking advice from Dick Cheney on wars. Being on the wrong side of Dick Cheney is being on the right side of history.”
Okay . . . if the facts of history prove to the majority of thinking human beings around the world that Dick was so wrong about Iraq, why on earth doesn’t Dick know he was so wrong about Iraq?
What’s wrong with Dick?
Is Dick lying and if he is lying, does Dick believe his lies?
If so, perhaps we should simply consider Dick to be delusional . . . or maybe he's just plain stupid.
And what about poor Liz Cheney?
Does Liz actually believe that her father, the Dick who has been so wrong about so much at the expense of so many in Iraq, is telling the truth today?
Or, is the poor girl so steeped in denial that she’s adopted her father’s delusions as the truth?
