“I thought these grapes were ripe, but I see now they are quite sour.” ~ Aesop, Aesop's Fables
Poor John Boehner, Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Five plus years after the inauguration of our first black president, Boehner is still trying to convince himself and America that Barack Obama is to blame for all the problems facing the nation.
Boehner said today in the GOP weekly address that the president’s record is “littered” with lies about every major initiative . . . from the stimulus to the Affordable Care Act . . . launched by the Obama administration.
Let’s let the facts answer that question.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also known as the ‘stimulus’, was made necessary by the collapsing economy bequeathed to President Obama by anti-regulation Republicans in Congress, including Representative Boehner, and the genius president, George W. Bush.
Like it or not, admit it or not, deny it or not, the ‘stimulus’ prevented the economy from collapsing, saved and created millions of jobs, and gave the nation a number of beneficial investments in infrastructure and research.
On the Affordable Care Act, the law of the land Boehner tried but failed to repeal more than 50 times, the honorable speaker is still trying to convince millions of Americans who no longer face bankruptcy due to arbitrary health insurance policy cancellations, who cannot be denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions, who finally have access to affordable health care, and who now enjoy the benefits of higher quality health care, that it would somehow be good to give up all those benefits.
Has the word ‘delusional’ wormed its way into your mind?
Or do you doubt my premise?
Okay . . . permit me to let Speaker Boehner prove my premise for me.
The poor man went on in the GOP weekly address to claim that Republicans in Congress have been honest with America when he said, “We’ve kept our pledge. Our majority in the House has made your priorities our priorities.”
What pledge is Boehner talking about?
Could it be the pledge to destroy President Obama’s presidency made by 15 GOP members of the Senate and House on the night of January 20, 2009 in a dinner meeting in a fashionable Washington, D.C. restaurant?
And, whose priorities was the speaker referring to . . . lobbyists, special interest groups, the people?
Since the GOP’s priority has been to force gridlock in Washington to block every Obama initiative to improve the quality of life for the 99% in America, Boehner is clearly referring to the priorities of lobbyists and special interest groups.
Boehner couldn’t resist the opportunity in today’s address to brag that House Republicans have “cut federal spending two years running.”
In light of the fact that Boehner and his GOP cohorts in Congress stood by, fingers and thumbs in their ears and eyes, for eight painfully long years as the George W. Bush administration increased federal spending by 104%, to brag today about cutting federal spending two years in a row sounds incredibly delusional.
If you don’t like where John Boehner’s delusions have led America, why not give him a call at 513-779-5400 or 202-225-6205 and tell him to knock it off?
Let us know what he says, willya?
