See also

It's hard to believe but the year is about to come to a close. And so the time has come to share with you my picks for the best in blues in Atlanta this year.

"Best of" lists are always subjective. My favorite group might not be your favorite group. A place I love might not appeal to you. So the list below is my list. If you haven't heard the music or been to the venue consider these strong recommendations from one friend to another! I am choosing two in each category plus an honorable mention or two.

Best venues:

Darwin's Blues Club in Marietta - a small club with great music drink and food and a friendly and attentive staff.

Blind Willie's - home of the Shadows the best house band in the Atlanta area and mecca for blues fans all around the area.

Honorable Mention:

120 Tavern and Music Hall Marietta - This venue hosts alternative acts and others as well as blues. It has the best stage of any local venue I am familiar with.

Best Musical Acts of 2013

The Cazanovas - The Cazanovas are representing Atlanta at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2014. They are dynamic energetic and always entertaing and Maurice Nazarro is one of the best harmonica players in the business.

The Breeze Kings - The Breeze Kings have been entertaining audiences for a long time and they never fail to deliver fun and great music every time they play.

Honorable Mention

Little G Weevil - Little G Weevil is a great blues singer guitarist and entertainer who won the 2013 IBC Solo/Duo award and also Best Guitarist. He always puts on a great show.

Best Up-and-Coming Group 2013

The Georgia Flood - The Georgia Flood are about to put out their first CD. They are an amazingly talented trio and very likeable guys on and off stage.

The Timo Arthur Duo - Timo Arthur and Tamara Nicolai are a great combination. I have a particular soft spot for Tamara and her upright bass but Timo is a talented guitarist and singer and together they are a dynamite combination who will be representing Atlanta in the Solo/Duo category in Atlanta.

Honorable Mention;

Abe Lincoln and the Log Lawyers- this young group won the Youth Band category at the Atlanta heat of the IBC and will be representing Atlanta in Memphis in January. They have a lot of talent and are a lot of fun to watch.

There you have choices for the best of 2013. Feel free to share your own choices in the comments!
