We have a busy 2013 on the horizon. Between February and May we're looking at over 20 major titles being released, and I've decided to narrow down those to 5. 5 games I simply cannot wait to play.
Now, it was hard enough narrowing this list to just five, and listing them in order? Oh myyyyy. So I've listed them in order of release, or supposed release, at least. Some could get pushed back and some just don't even have dates yet. Let's take a look!
South Park: The Stick of Truth - March 5th (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Still currently listed as having a March 5th release date despite the recent THQ sale and purchase by Ubisoft, this is really the first true South Park game we can all get excited about. Trey and Matt are directly involved and the game is being developed by Obsidian, who, while having a so-so track record, still gives me faith in the game. They care!
BioShock: Infinite - March 26th (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Ken Levine has never done me wrong. The first BioShock is one of my favorite games this gen, and the team behind that masterpiece is at the helm for “Infinite.” BioShock could really be a lot like Final Fantasy. New characters, new setting with each installment. Just less stupid. Wouldn't that be something?
Metro: Last Night - March 31st (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Much like the South Park RPG, this game was also recently sold to another publisher. I discovered the first game, “Metro 2033” late last year, after THQ tried to get everyone to buy it and its other games by discounting them by 50-80% through Steam and XBL. Metro 2033 was very similar to a semi-recent post-apocalyptic RPG about a character who had recently lost their father, and while not as great as that game, it showed a lot of promise. I haven’t seen or know anything about “Last Night” and I remain to keep it that way, until I get it in my hands.
The Last of Us - May 7th (PS3)
This very well could be the last PS3 exclusive we see before Sony announces a new console in the coming months, and if it truly is, it looks like it’ll be one to play no matter what. Developed by Naughty Dog, the game looks heavily influenced by “The Road”, which already means it gets my money, and the trailers they’ve shown at E3 and the VGA’s show off something great. Can’t wait for this.
Grand Theft Auto V - Spring 2013 (Xbox 360, PS3)
Quite possibly, my favorite gaming franchise. There hasn't been a GTA, I didn't like. GTA 4 might be my least favorite, but I guarantee I still put 60-80 hours into that game, and the DLC episodes greatly made up for the main game’s horrible story line and awful characters. I think Rockstar knew this, which is why GTA V features 3 protagonists, and hopefully less phone calls from annoying cousins asking if you want to go bowling
