As a pet sitter, I encounter many things while I am walking dogs on the streets of Carmel, and Westfield, Indiana. I am usually the first to arrive to all the garage sales. I usually do a "walk by" with the dog I'm walking to eyeball any "good" merchandise and then go back later after I finish my pet sitting gig.
Last week, I found a love letter on the ground. While reading it, I looked around nervously like the writer was watching me. My favorite line was, "I love you to the moon and back". I smiled and quickly put the letter in my back pocket.
I see many things while I am pet sitting. Today alone, I saw a person carried out of a home on a gurney covered with a blue sheet. It made me sad to think that their life had ended and my day had just begun. Tonight, I ran into "stinky" the skunk at my client's horse barn. Apparently, skunks like the barn cat's food. Luckily, "stinky" didn't make me stinky. I have been a pet sitter for almost twelve years and every day is different. I may find a quarter on the sidewalk while walking a client's pup or my favorite is when I get the best sloppy wet kiss on my face from a dog I'm caring for.
