Mutilated dog recovers from horrific injuries, receives prosthetics (Video)

A mutilated dog is recovering from horrific injuries allegedly inflicted by Mexican drug traffickers. The lovable Belgian shepherd mix was found discarded in the trash last year with both of his front legs hacked off.

The pooch, whose name is Lemon Pie, was reportedly injured as "practice for mutilating humans," according to a Jan 13, 2013 report by Yahoo! News. It's inconceivable to think that anyone could harm a beautiful and gentle creature like Lemon Pie.

As the mutilated dog recovers at the Milagros Caninos sanctuary in Mexico City, he is surrounded by other animals that have fallen on hard times. Lemon Pie is learning to run and frolic on his two prosthetic front legs. He plays among blind, deaf and ill dogs and cats at the sanctuary. There are even dogs in wheelchairs at the large compound where Lemon Pie currently lives.

Hopefully Lemon Pie will find a forever home one day with owners who will overwhelm him with love and kindness. For now, the mutilated dog recovers from the physical and emotional wounds he suffered at the hands of drug traffickers while he adjusts to life on prosthetic legs.
