When the owners of the Kickback Cafe in Grimes were forced to close the restaurant down last November due to a family crisis, they hoped to find someone to take over the business and keep things going. That prayer was recently answered, as Lori Wyld bought the space (located at 213 Southeast Main Street) and began working to reopen the cafe as the Mustang Grill.

The Mustang Grill will have Dallas Center-Grimes memorabilia (the mustang is their mascot) hanging everywhere and will be a strong supporter of the school. Wyld has already announced several tie-ins to the school. After an explosion of Twitter requests from DCG students, Wyld agreed to sell $1 crispitos after home sporting events. Wyld also announced that they will have a raffle during their open house weekend with proceeds to go to DCG's after prom party.

Speaking of the restaurant's opening weekend, Wyld announced that the restaurant would have an open house environment instead of a grand opening. The Mustang Grill will be open the following hours this weekend:

Friday, January 31: 3 p.m. - Midnight
Saturday, February 1: 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Sunday, February 2: 8 a.m. - after the Super Bowl

Business hours will be Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 9 or 10 pm. (Wyld will see if there is enough business for that extra hour), Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. However, Wyld has stated that hours may change as sporting seasons change and things begin to happen on Sunday evenings. Normal business hours will start on Monday, February 3. She is currently booking musical acts, as well, and she plans on having live music every weekend on Friday and Saturday nights.

The menu at Mustang Grill will be a fairly small, simple one. Here is what Wyld posted on the restaurant's Facebook page today:

Ok my supportive FB friends...our menu for this soft opening/open house this weekend is kind of a test run and trying out some different far as a regular menu...typical breakfast fare—French toast, homemade biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, breakfast sandwich, loaded hash browns, breakfast burrito...lunch/dinner menu—a couple specialty burgers, a basic burger, a grilled chicken sandwich, steak sandwich, chicken wrap, house salad, grilled chicken salad, country tenders sandwich, grown up grilled cheese, BLT, soups...appetizers—fried cheese curds, boneless wings, chicken tenders, basket of fries, basket of Mustang chips, fried pickle chips, crispitos, nachos with cheese and salsa...that's a brief rundown of the menu...for now.

Also, a local baker will be providing sweets like Smore's Brownies, giant cookies, Cream Cheese Almond Pound Cake, and Raspberry Almond Coffee Cake for the restaurant. No prices have been mentioned yet.
