Have you ever been enveloped in 100,000 watts of bass? Relative newcomer Excision wants to do just that by bringing the precise amount of umph as a delivery mechanism for his particular brand of dubstep. Canadian Jeff Abel has been blasting a violent level of bass music for almost six years, starting with self-released music in 2006. Along with guys like Downlink, Excision provides a different twist on the modern dubstep scene: power over grace. His relentless use of the lower decibels creates a swirling menagerie of danceable thumps, ranging from club bangers to head bangers. His live stage is an amorphous blob of lights, colors, and images, with Abel himself directly in the middle, able to to direct the entire thing with his fingertips. He's also pegged to perform at this year's Coachella festival.
Along with Excision on this tour are Paper Diamond and Vaski. Vaski hails from Minnesota and is another young wonderkind, discovered by the scene so desperately craving newer and younger talent. His brand of dubstep focuses more on the wacky wobbles, something obviously gleaned from his breakbeat influences. Paper Diamond hails from Colorado, the current hotspot for all things fancy, funky, and hip in the current EDM landscape. Along with cohorts like Micheal Menert and Pretty Lights, Paper Diamond released his music for free before blowing up. His mixtapes and music combines great elements of funk and hip-hop, in a way that eventually got him noticed by Outkast’s Big Boi and others desiring his unique brand of production.
Tickets are going quick, so buy them while you can. It is an 18 and older show, so get a babysitter, buy some glow sticks, and have a good time at Club Nokia!
