It pains me to write this. It pains me almost as missing out on getting tickets to this show pains me. The Long Island band Brand New does not play too many shows, especially not in the past half-decade, instead living off of the overwhelming support of fans with solid release after solid release. It has been four years since Daisy was made and nearly as long since the four-piece has played any sort of consistent tour schedule. For two nights in Santa Ana (and two in New Jersey and New York), the band will be playing all four of their albums in their entirety, with night one consisting of the first two and night two finishing off the catalogue. The tickets for this show sold out within mere seconds, leaving a ton of frustrated fans smashing their keyboard in disgust. Soon the prices on Craigslist rose to the $500 mark, some sort of cruel joke from the concert Gods for not having fast enough internet speeds or something.
If you get a ticket to this show, it will be one of the best in your life. Brand New has a cadence, a motif, and a lifeline unlike any other act in music. Their lyrics can split right through the mental and emotional clutter of the listener if held in just the right light, something few bands of their generation have been able to do over their entire career. While standing outside of The Observatory and crying for a ticket may not let you in, some scumbag scalper might take pity on you and give you a deal. As it stands, that's the best (and cheapest) way to see this show, so good luck!
