Muss & Turner's is not officially considered a wine bar, per se, and they are very well known for some innovative and very tasty small plates that try to utilize organic and local ingredients when at all possible. But take serious note of their weekly wine tastings every Tuesday night starting at 6:45 for only $10 per person and hosted by none other than Ryan Turner himself.
There is, in fact, a bar in the restaurant as well with a huge cooler of eclectic beers to choose from and the wine list is just as creative and diverse. They have focused on keeping the wine selection as simple as possible and look to provide value as well as keeping those wines their patrons choose as their favorites on the list. At every Tuesday night wine tasting, they will take note of what wines were voted of great value by the participants and will identify those wines on the menu with the designation "MTCC," which means Muss & Turner Customer Choice.
Every tasting will have a theme and the tasting coming up on December 29th will be focused on "Bubbles" which is appropriate this time of season for sparkling wines and Champagne. Variety, selection, value and unpretentious is how the wine experience at Muss & Turner's is identified.
Both the food and drink menus are constantly changing to keep things fresh and exciting, but here are a couple of wines of note from a recent tasting:
2006 Steele Pinot Noir (Santa Barbara)- From the winemaker who put Kendall Jackson on the map, this Pinot had some stewed veggies and forest floor on the nose. The taste was light and like a cherry jolly rancher.
2008 Chateau Peyruchet (Bordeaux) - This Sauvignon Blanc displayed some grass and grapefruit on the nose followed by very citrusy lemon on the palate without too much acid and a hint of minerality.
