Katy Perry is no stranger to controversy, and by the looks of the fallout from her latest video, she's also managed to upset tens of thousands of Muslims, as reported by the Arab/Muslim-centered news portal al-Bawaba (of the United Arab Emirates) on Feb. 25, 2014, and New York City's entertainment-based on Feb. 24, 2014.

In her latest music video release, "Dark Horse" depicts Perry as a Cleopatra-esque ruler of ancient Egypt in which she brings down lightning on a poor lose that apparently has lost the queen's favor.

Barely seen, the lightning-struck individual was sporting two different pendants: one which seems to be the logo of Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group.

The second, to the viewer's left, appears to be the Arabic spelling of the word for God ("Allah").

At the 1:15 mark of the offending video, the lightning-zapped individual is turned into dust - to include the pendants, thusly angering Muslims but apparently not many Rick Ross fans.

Initiated by Shazad Iqbal of Bradford, United Kingdom, upwards of 40,000 upset viewers have petitioned the White House via to seek Barack Obama's assistance in censoring "Dark Horse" by pulling it from

The vast majority of the comments left on the American site were from Muslims not currently residing in the United States, and the overwhelming theme was they considered the video "blasphemy" and "offensive."

And there was an offended individual who called for violence:

  • Siddiqa Gafoor JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA I am a muslim and will fight for whats right

Meanwhile, al-Bawaba cited 30,000 "Muslims worldwide" have already signed an on-line petition to also see the video yanked from Youtube.

Examples cited include one Muslim living in Sweden insinuating Perry intends to "start a war against Muslims."

  • Nida Ahmed from Huddersfield, UK signed on the petition that the video shows “great disrespect to Islam yet these lot say we are the bad ones well hah shame on these people (sic).”
  • Unik Salihu from Sweden said, “I as a Muslim, think this is a disgrace. Does she want to start a war against Muslims? This video is insulting to us and needs to be removed before something happens! (sic).”
  • Faeezah Shaik from South Africa said: “Artists should consider the impact their 'art' would have on society and not just go ahead and do things for the sake of being controversial. There are over 2 billion Muslims in the world, all of whom would be extremely hurt and angered to see their God's name depicted in such a tasteless manner!
