This past weekend, in the community section of the Patriot News, an article featuring the women of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community was published. The women of this community have volunteered to help establish funds for the Veteran's Memorial that will be erected in the Silver Springs Park in Mechanicsburg.
"We feel it is out duty to remind people that we enjoy the freedom of religion in this country. We need to do something for those brace souls who gave their lives," Farida Ahmad said. "One of the things that is very important to us is that we believe in our religion teaches us to be loyal to our country. I want to pass that on to my children. We are striving to remind our children that there were people who gave their lives to keep us free. Islam teaches us that when you are thankful to people, you can be thankful to God."
Kurt Minnich the veteran chair of the Veteran memorial committee is "thrilled that the Ahmadi group wants to adopt the veterans memorial and help collect donations."
For more information on the memorial, go to www.sstveteransmemorial.com. The original article is found in December 24-26 of PN community (Patriot News).
