MusicNow Festival will occur this year in collaboration with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Louis Langree and MusicNow’s Artistic Director Bryce Dessner. This festival will take place on March 21, and March 22 at 8pm at Music Hall. It will offer a unique music blend that is rhythmic, intense and heart pounding.
Featured artists of the festival are Bryce and Aaron Dessner of versatile rock band the Nationals. Bryce Dessner’s has 2 original works on Friday night.
St. Carolyn by the Sea which will feature Bryce and Aaron performing. Bryce’s other work Friday night is called Murder Ballades. Murder Ballades will feature the talent of the CSO’s very own ensemble-in-residence the Grammy winning sexlet the eighth blackbird. There will also be world premiere music that night by composer Nico Muhly with his portrait work called Pleasure Ground it is about the life and creations of landscape architect Fredrick Ground. It will feature talent of baritone Nathan Wyatt. Other music that night will include Scriabin’s The Poem of Ecstasy,
Saturday nights music will feature a original world premiere music by Pulitzer Prize-winner David Lang. His creation also a portrait work is called Mountain. This work is about the life of American Composer Aaron Copland. Other music that night will also feature Krzysztof Penderecki’s Polymorphia, and Jonny Greenwood’s 48 Responses to Polymorphia, as well as Prokofiev’s Scythian Suite.
