Four Kansas City bands are donating time and talent for an afternoon fundraiser benefiting The Animal Rescue Alliance (T.A.R.A.). The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 25th, 2013 at Foundation (1221 Union Ave, KCMO) from 1 to 6 pm.
T.A.R.A. is a non-profit, all-volunteer group that was founded in 2007 in honor of Tara Nagel. Nagel worked at a local vet's office and she also ran its adoption program on the side. She always dreamed of starting a rescue for black dogs, which are sadly, some of the last to be adopted from shelters. Unfortunately, only two months after her 25th birthday, Nagel lost her life in a car accident. It only took friends two years to found T.A.R.A. in honor of their lost pal. Although T.A.R.A. has no paid staff, the group has been responsible for saving the lives of 1,500 homeless pets since '07.
"It's heart wrenching to imagine, but every day in our area emaciated puppies and kittens are dumped and left to scavenge for food and water in city parks, and perfectly wonderful pets sit on death row at high-kill shelters, just begging for someone to give them a chance," says T.A.R.A. president Virginia Keithley. "T.A.R.A. saves these animals' lives. We open our houses as temporary foster homes, we get them healthy, spay or neuter and microchip them all, and then find them loving forever homes."
Tickets for "Tunes for T.A.R.A." are $25 and available through the T.A.R.A. website, www.tarasdream.org or you can buy them at the door on the day of the event. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be provided, along with a cash bar, silent auction and "chance" drawings. 100% of the proceeds from Tunes for T.A.R.A. will go to the organization. The money raised from one ticket can provide one month of heartworm and flea preventative for two dogs. With the money from two tickets, T.A.R.A. can spay or neuter a homeless pet. Four tickets can cover "pull fees" to save five pets from high-kill shelters. To say that these funds are desperately needed is an understatement!
The lineup for Tunes for T.A.R.A. includes some of Kansas City's finest musicians.
