Theatre Within's 31st Annual John Lennon Tribute, a New York City tradition since 1981, took place before a sellout crowd Dec. 10 at New York’s (Le) Poisson Rouge.
The all-star cast featured Steve Forbert, Bettye LaVette, Lucy Kaplansky, Rich Pagano of the Fab Faux, Richard Barone, Marshall Crenshaw, Toshi Reagon, Mike Doughty and others taking on the John Lennon song book. The songs performed included all those from his "John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band" album.

Proceeds from this year's event and the just-released digital live album of last year’s event, "The 30th Annual John Lennon Tribute Live from the Beacon Theatre", which featured artists including Patti Smith, Jackson Browne, Meshell Ndegeocello, Keb Mo', Martin Sexton, Shelby Lynne, Taj Mahal, Bettye LaVette and Aimee Mann, will benefit The Japanese Red Cross’ Tsunami and Earthquake Relief efforts. Yoko Ono has given her support to the event.
"John would have loved that Theatre Within has produced a special live album of his songs to benefit the Japanese Red Cross and the people still suffering from the tsunami and earthquake," said Yoko Ono.
The album is available by digital download or on physical CD.
