Nothing is more inspiring than music. Physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally, music is an art form that takes you places. Matched with your willpower during a workout, it can provide you with the energy to get through some of the most challenging exercises. Similarly, it can give you some deep peace and relaxation.
Over time, seasoned athletes and exercise fanatics have songs and lyrics that they use to "pump themselves up" before an important event or challenge. You can do the same. Empower yourself and find something that pushes you beyond your cardiovascular limit. Or find something to use during meditation and yoga to support relaxation. The key is to identify the type of energy you want to express and express it fully, completely and wholeheartedly.
So this months challenge is to embrace it and find music for your workouts. Maybe change the style you're used to listening to or change the usual routine. Zumba for example is a great dance workout inspired by Latin American rhythms. It's exotic but familiar enough to keep you interested and entertained. Out of all the cardiovascular workouts I've reviewed, I have yet to see one synchronize the music with the muscle as well as Zumba.
Music adds another, more personal layer to your exercise routine and can be a powerful tool to incorporate into your life. Since dance music is something very inspiring to me personally, I have a slideshow and video attached to the article with a sample of some of the top ten dance songs of 2011. In my opinion, each one of these songs are perfect for a bike ride, trail run, or intense cardiovascular workout since the beats are fast and in tune with the pace that's needed to keep up. If you are a fitness walker or power lifter then I would recommend you explore other genres, too. Don't let my list be all inclusive to your needs. Go out there and find your own piece of music to call your own.
From AOL.com, "The top dance songs of 2010 are part of an electronic movement that is only becoming more dominant over time. While Top 40 acts can draw huge crowds, they are dwarfed by the size and scope of today's rave and dance parties, which have reached monumental proportions. The names might not roll of your tongue as easily, but if the ratings on our Top Dance station are any indication, you'll be movin' to one of these dance tracks."
