Milford's Music in the Park will be holding a fundraiser at the Water Wheel Cafe, Bakery and Bar in Milford, PA to raise funds for the 2014 summer concerts series held each year in the historic borough.
According to organizers, the fundraiser at the Water Wheel in February 2013 “was not only a memorable one – featuring the formidable talents of They Know, Small Town Sheiks and Marc Von Em – it was also a hugely successful event. The fun factor was off the charts, especially when Von Em invited the other groups up [to the stage] for a finale to remember. But it also marked a successful kick-off to a season to remember.”
The money raised at this fundraiser goes toward beginning to book acts for the free concerts in the Ann Street Park in Milford, which starts with the Sunday during the famous Milford Music Festival and is presented every other Sunday for as many weeks as funds are available.Other money for the bookings comes from local business sponsorships. Last year, that meant six concerts with two to three acts each concert.
“Last year we absolutely rocked the park in Milford,” said one committee member. He was speaking of acts that spanned the gamut of entertainment from MiZ and Mike Lawlor Banned during the music festival to the amazing talents of Marc Von Em to close the season. Last year's talents included regional favorites such as Regina Sayles and Heather Maloney, along with the taste of Broadway in the form of the talented Sabrina Reitman (Abri). Groups from as far away as Connecticut-based The Juicy Grapes to local favorites such as The Parting Glass and the Tara Minstrels entertained residents and visitors alike. And all for free.
This year the fundraiser will spotlight regional talent in the form of a venue of talented performers – seven acts in all. There will be the funny and entertaining Walt Edwards, the versatile Ernie Kara, the up and coming sweet tones of Amy Dewland, the always amazing Celeste Aldridge accompanied by Micheal Zimmerman, the smooth sounds of Mr. Ken Fox, musician, teacher and all around talented musician Dan Engvaldsen, and the breakout artist of 2014 Don Lowe.
