Music news, special events and show listings this week in Orlando

There are a few bits of band news and special shows included among the listings for this coming week, March 10-16, in Orlando local music. As usual, there are a ton of great events to choose from for Orlando music fans to get out and support their local music community.

Last week Orlando band Modern Day Escape announced a hiatus. The post from their Facebook page:

“All good things must come to a PAUSE .We regret to inform our fans we will be taking an official hiatus from the music industry as the group Modern Day Escape until further notice.”

Also in music news are a couple of updates from Capstan. They have a new guitarist in the band, Andrew Bozymowski. They have also been busy working on a new EP, “Seasonal Depression,” due out soon.

On Monday the bands selected to showcase for the 2014 Florida Music Festival (FMF) will be notified. It will be great to see the list of showcasing talent start to grow because it could only mean one thing – it’s getting closer to FMF, April 24-26. They have already announced three headliners for the festival, Less Than Jake, Aer and Ed Kowalczyk.

This coming Wednesday, WPRK’s “Local Heroes” returns to the airwaves. There are two new co-hosts that will be sitting in with Daniel Pacchioni. The new show logo is revealed and more information is available in this Examiner.com article.

Saturday is PlayPro Media’s Hoops and Hits 2.0. DJ Sheen Boogie will be hosting and there will be live music from singer/songwriter Bob Green and Theolodge. Also, PlayPro Media will be there so other local artists can drop off their demos with them as they look for more artists to work with. This is a FREE event open to the public.

Also on Saturday is the CD release show for the Doc Ellis Orchestra. They will be celebrating the release of “The Strange Case part a” with a show at The O Zone Sports Bar.

Yet another event on Saturday is Odin’s Den’s fundraising event. With this live event and their online campaign, the live music venue/bar is hoping to raise enough money to stay in business. Music fans that can’t make the show can donate to the cause on their Go Fund Me page to donate.

Monday, March 10

Will’s Pub - 1042 N. Mills Ave. - Live music from Agent Orange, Moon Men from Mars and RushmoreFl for this 18+ show. The doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10.

West End Trading Company - 202 S. Sanford Ave. (Sanford) - RPR presents open mic hosted by Brandon Parker Harris at 8 p.m. This FREE event is 18+.

Tuesday, March 11

The Red Lion Pub - 3784 Howell Branch Road - Twisted Tuesday with Ancient Sun for this 18+ show. This FREE event includes live music and other entertainment as well as a home-cooked meal, with a $2 donation to the Red Lion Community Emergency Fund. The live music starts at 7:30 p.m.

Will’s Pub - 1042 N. Mills Ave. - Live music from Darsombra, En Vietnam, The Glorious Rebellion and Midas in Reverse for this 18+ show. The doors open at 8 p.m. and tickets are $5.

Smiling Bison - 745 Bennett Road - Live music from the John Krasula Jazz Trio at 7 p.m. for this FREE all ages show.

BB Kings Blues Club - 9101 International Dr. - Live music from Tstone from 7:30-11:30 p.m.

World of Beer UCF - 3402 Technological Ave., Suite 202 - Live music from Orlando singer/songwriter Justin Foyil at 9:30 p.m.

Wednesday, March 12

Bombshell’s Tavern - 5405 Edgewater Dr. - BookedPro presents live music from The Paramedic, More Than You Can Bear, Embrosia, Forever Taken, Through the Glass, Atlas and 21 Days Remain for this all ages show. Tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door.

Bloodhound Brew - 5801 Conroy Road - Spring Break Music Series Rock N Dance Party featuring live music from Ms. Meka Nism (acoustic), Room Full of Strangers and The Fallen Sons. There is no cover charge for this show. The doors open at 7 p.m.

Smiling Bison - 745 Bennett Road - Jazz Garage, an evening of improvisational jazz music featuring special guests starts at 10 p.m. There is no cover charge for this 18+ event.

BB Kings Blues Club - 9101 International Dr. - Live music from B.B. King’s All Star Band from 7:30-11:30 p.m.

Dexter’s Winter Park - 558 W. New England Ave. - Live acoustic music from Ronnie Lester at 6:30 p.m.

Jazz Tastings - 164 Lake Ave. (Maitland) - Live music from John Valeri Quartet at 7 p.m.

On line everywhere - WPRK 91.5 - WPRK’s Local Heroes radio show makes it's return to the airwaves. From 5-7 p.m., the show features local talent from actors, directors, photographers, entrepreneurs, and musicians with DJ Daniel Pacchioni and co-hosts Ilene Leiber and George Wallace playing music from local Orlando bands. BackBooth - 37 W. Pine St. - BookedPro presents live music from Kingdom Of Giants, Outline in Color, The Ongoing Concept, Catcher and The Rye, Aberration and Inside The Vicious Heart for this all ages show. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. The doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Rollins College Tiedke Concert Hall - 1000 Holt Ave. (Winter Park) - Live music from critically acclaimed saxophonist and composer Jack Wilkins’ Blue and Green Project. The Project features a 19 piece band performing original compositions drawing inspiration from Blues, Gospel, Jazz, Mountain music, and New Orleans traditions. This event starts at 7:30 p.m. and is FREE and open to the public.

The Haven - 6700 Aloma Ave. - Hip Hop Night featuring live performances from Blaza, YoungTriggworld, Travis J, HANN and Mr L- BO.

Friday, March 14

BackBooth - 37 W. Pine St. - Norsekorea presents live music from Gasoline Heart (formerly of Orlando), Mike Dunn (with band), Kyle Cox Band and Words Now Heard for this all ages show. Tickets are $7 in advance or $10 at the door. The doors open at 7 p.m.

Odin’s Den - 1335 Howell Branch Road - BookedPro presents live music from I Met A Yeti, ANICCA, The Winter, Wage War, From Mortals To Monsters and Mouth of the Harlot for this 18+ show. Tickets are $6 for 21+ and $8 for 18-20. The doors open at 9 p.m. and the music starts at 10 p.m. Admission will be by donation, $5 recommended and a $2 minimum.

The Space - 1206 E. Colonial Dr. - PreCon III 2014: Pre-Party and Fundraiser for Little Econ Love Fest featuring live music from The Getbye, She The Slut, Frank Asaurus Fresh and The Filthy DeNiro’s for this show. The doors open at 9 p.m.

UCF – Lake Claire, Gemini Blvd. – Late Knights Ranch Party featuring BBQ, fun activities and live music from the Greg Warren Band. This event is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. and is open to the public.

The Lofts - 1805 Loftway Circle - PlayPro Media presents Hoops and Hits 2.0 featuring live music from Singer/songwriter Bob Green and Theolodge. This event is a chance for local businesses, student organizations and the Orlando community to socialize and build their network while connecting directly with college students. Attendees can hangout by the pool, participate in a basketball tournament, play volleyball, enjoy great food and listen to live music. This FREE event is open to the public and will be held at The Lofts Student Apartments between noon and 5 p.m. PlayPro Media is looking to have other local artists drop off a demo for a chance to work with them.

Odin’s Den - 1335 Howell Branch Road - A fundraising event for Odin’s Den to keep it from closing featuring live music from Traumahawk, Garroted, Auditory Armory, Sweep the Leg and more TBA. There will also be raffles held throughout the day with prizes from local tattoo shops, restaurants, salons, and more. This event kicks off at 2 p.m. and there is a $5 cover charge. Local music fans can also go to their Go Fund Me campaign page to donate.

The Haven - 6700 Aloma Ave. – Camden’s Epic, Super Awesome Birthday Show of Destruction featuring live music from Atlas, Artilect, Sons Of Ragnar, Black Light Cobras, Maverick Hunter, Murderfly, Seven Kingdoms, Detoura and more. There is a $12 cover charge. The music starts at 6:30 p.m.

Will’s Pub - 1042 N. Mills Ave. - The Modern Music Movement presents a Gram Parsons revival featuring live music from The Luxury Liners, Jackson and Forest Rodgers and Stephen Rock. The doors open at 9 p.m. and there is an $8 cover charge for this 18+ show.
