Former SONY Music Executive, Tommy Mottola is taking a trip down “The Great White Way” to produce and revive two popular films, as well as bring a certain celebrity’s story to life.
The New York Post reports that the Broadway shows will include musical adaptations of “Super Fly,” and actor Chazz Palminteri’s, “A Bronx Tale,” and as for the celebrity’s story to revive on stage, it is being kept a big secret for now.
Super Fly was a 1972 Blaxploitation film directed by Gordon Parks, Jr., and also starred actor Ron O’Neal, who portrayed “Youngblood Priest,” an up and coming African- American cocaine dealer in New York City.
Super Fly’s soundtrack is known for its “Super Fly” hit by soul singer, Curtis Mayfield.
As for A Bronx Tale, a movie directed by recently Oscar-nominated, Robert DeNiro was a 1993 crime drama which took place in the turbulent times of the 1960’s in The Bronx.
The film which was not necessarily known for its soundtrack will somehow become a musical on Broadway.
Robert DeNiro who directed A Bronx Tale, will reportedly direct the Broadway show as well, and will be his Broadway directorial debut.
As for the third on-stage biography project for Tommy Mottola, no one knows yet who the story will be about.
Could it be Mottola’s former wife, multi-Grammy winning diva and current “American Idol” judge, Mariah Carey?
We don’t know which huge celebrity the show will be about, but we do know if it is Mariah Carey, the show will receive a lot of controversy prior to the curtains going up the first day.
