Evanston is the place to be this Valentine’s weekend which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. tonight when Northwestern University’s Keyboard Conversations series presents “The Romantic Music of Chopin” at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. Known as one of the great Romantic composers, Frédéric François Chopin composed Polonaise in A-flat, waltzes, etudes and the Nocturne in F—all of which will be performed by pianist Jeffrey Siegel. Tickets are $22; $16 for students.
On Saturday, the University’s Kids Fare series presents “Festejar o Ritmo de Brazil!” at 10:30 a.m. at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. The children-friendly show features Brazilian percussion virtuoso Dede Sampaio, who will educate and entertain with elements of dance, acrobatics and music. Tickets are $6; $4 for children and students.
The romantic weekend concludes when the Northwestern University Guitar Ensemble takes the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at Lutkin Hall. Music by Sor, Villa-Lobos, Domeniconi and Dyens are on the program. Tickets are $6; $4 for students.
