Music documentarian Paul Preston raising funds to save ambitious film project

In the year that it took Springfield native Paul Preston to shoot over 40 live music performances, 100 bands, musicians and folks connected to the Western Massachusetts music scene (in total, Preston went to 150 shows to research and collect footage), it only took a few minutes to lose all of that valuable material. A week ago, Preston's external drive containing 6 terabytes of raw and edited footage for a documentary film that's nearly 90% complete about the local music scene crashed, potentially ending his ambitious labor of love.

Attempts to restore and recover the data locally were unsuccessful and Preston contracted the services of a data recovery facility outside of Massachusetts. The good news is that the data is fully intact; the bad news is that it's going to cost him.

To that end, Preston has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise the funds that are critically needed to get his film back on track. According to the filmmaker, it'll cost $2400 to recover the data and $500 to acquire a 6 terabyte external drive to back up the project.

The local music scene is doing its part as well to help Preston as evidenced by his campaign video. If you can help him reach his attainable goal, please view the embedded video and donate directly to his GoFundMe campaign.
