On Sunday, a bit of central Ohio poetry will make its way north to Bay Village at the BAYarts center.
Located on the Lake Erie shore in the Cleveland Metroparks’ Huntington Reservation, BAYarts will be kicking off their summer concert series with a “Celebration of Music and Poetry” May 23 from 6-9pm.
Mark Hersman, recently-elected president of the Ohio Poetry Association, will be host and emcee for the event. Also known for hosting monthly readings at Sips Coffee House in Mt. Vernon and Pumpkin Hollow in Bellville, Hersman organized the event, which will be featuring the poetry of Robert Miltner (fresh from his reading at this week’s Lix & Kix) and Steve Abbott, professor at Columbus State and associate editor of Pudding House Press.
As do most of Mark Hersman’s events, Sunday will also feature musical entertainment. Jennifer Allen, a central Ohio-based singer-songwriter who describes her music as “jazzy folk”, will be performing during the evening. In addition, attendees will be treated to the bluegrass stylings of Lemongrass. The bluegrass ensemble consists of a group of music students from Denison University who actually had the opportunity to major in bluegrass performance and form their own group.
In addition, an open mic will follow the featured performers for the evening. So come out and help BAYarts kick off their summer season with an evening of music and poetry.
