Dr. Alisha Moreland-Capuia is a physician, scholar, educator, and orator. She has newly been appointed chief medical director for Volunteers of America Oregon, the state’s branch of a national organization that provides social services to the most vulnerable segments of America’s population. She continues her tenure at Oregon Health & Science University as director of the Avel Gordly Center for Healing, and as assistant professor of psychiatry.
Sunday Assembly Portland, founded in 2014, offers the communal music and fun of a church gathering, but with the deliberate absence of any religious or supernatural content. Citing a strategy of “radical inclusion”, the group seeks to build community that is friendly to all, including those whose lack of religious belief may cause them to feel alienated in a typical church setting.
