Museum Month features forty San Diego Museums in February

This February will be 29 days long, with an extra day for Leap Year. That’s one more day for San Diego County’s “Museum Month,” a special event presenting forty local museums with half-price entry. The special “Museum Month” passes are available at all twelve Macy’s stores in San Diego County, including Horton Plaza downtown and Mission Valley.

Featured art museums include the Coronado Museum of History & Art, Mingei International Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Museum of Photographic Arts, Oceanside Museum of Art, San Diego Archaeological Center, San Diego Museum of Art, and Visions Art Museum. The local venue of the regional Pacific Standard Time Exhibition is the Mingei Museum, home to the special exhibition “San Diego’s Craft Revolution - From Post-War Modern to California Design.”

The Visions Art Museum will present another perspective on design -- quilts and tapestries. Two new exhibitions open February 3: “Art meets Science” and “Selections from the Thomas Contemporary Quilt Collection.” The San Diego Archaeological Center will take you back in time to the era when San Diego County was inhabited mainly by Native American tribes with notable artistic traditions. The Center is located in Escondido and has several special events scheduled during February Museum Month: “New Ideas from Ancient Traditions” will take place February 11 at 11 a.m., “Throwing Javelins and Hurling Words? Evidence of Literacy in the Northern Frontier Zone of Roman Britain” is scheduled for noon on February 17, and the Kumeyaay Pottery Workshop-Part 2 will start February 18 at 8:30 a.m.
