On Saturday January, 26, Muse attracted nearly 20,000 die hard fans to Downtown Los Angeles for what would be their last of three performances at Staples Center. Doors opened at 6:00pm and the UK-trio kicked off the night with their newest dub-step single, “Unsustainable”, from their recent album, The 2nd Law.
Muse, known for their fascination with technology and science, delivered what many say was their most visually compelling show to date. For aesthetic appeal, live footage from the band’s music videos was projected onto flat screens that surrounded the stage. At one point, after a much anticipated rendition of “Hysteria,” an inverted pyramid made up of more screens descended from the stage ceiling. In addition to the array of moving video screens, band members continued to perform with custom instruments that lit up and responded to the played notes throughout the two-hour show.
In 2011 Muse took home the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album for The Resistance. The band has also earned four Gold Albums, and over the course of their career have won multiple Brit Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, NME Awards, Q Awards, and many others. They have released six albums, 1999's Showbiz, 2001's Origin of Symmetry, 2003's Absolution, 2006's Black Holes and Revelations, 2009's The Resistance, and this year's The 2nd Law, which earned them their highest-ever debut on the Billboard album chart when the album bowed at No. 2 a week after its release. The album's first single "Madness" is currently in its 9th consecutive week at No. 1 at alternative radio. Muse will kick off a tour of the United States in January 2013.
Muse kicked off their 2013 North American Tour in San Diego and will finish on April 26 in Quebec City, Quebec before taking their show abroad.
