Murderer recaptured: Prisoner mistakenly freed in Chicago apprehended

Murderer recaptured after he was mistakenly set free. A report at ABC from earlier today says a Chicago jail accidentally released the convicted murderer, Steven L. Robbins, free on Saturday after it was revealed the outstanding warrant in Chicago had been dropped in 2007.

Robbins,44, is serving a 60-year sentence in Indiana for the 2002 shooting death of a man who attempted to break up a fight he was having with his wife. He was recaptured on Friday night without incident after authorities interviewed family and friends in an attempt to find out his whereabouts.

Following his Chicago court appearance, Robbins was taken to a jail on the South Side of Chicago, given civilian clothing, and released. Sources say the public was not made aware of that Robbins was on the loose for nearly 24 hours.

Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart called the accidental release of Robbins was "a clerical error" caused by an outdated paperwork system.

Seriously? A clerical error? People make mistakes everyday, but this is a situation that could have gone bad... really fast.
