Joran Vandersloot is a 26-year-old Dutchman, murderer of 21-year-old Peruvian woman Stephanie Florez, and suspected murderer of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway. Now he is expecting a child, despite the fact that he is locked up in a Peruvian prison serving a 28 year sentence. Not only is he expecting a son, he is going to marry the woman bearing his child.
The woman is Leydi Carol Figueroa Uceda, a 23-year-old that struck up a relationship with Vandersloot while visiting a relative in prison. While the U.S. doesn't allow inmates to have visitors inside their cell, Peru allows it.
Many question why a woman would want to have a baby or even a relationship with a man suspected of murdering 2 women. Others claim the marriage is a ploy by Vandersloot so that he can attempt to use it as a way to avoid being extradited to the United States when he is released in 2038.
A federal grand jury in Alabama indicted Vandersloot for trying to extort $250,000 from Beth Holloway, the mother of Natalee Holloway. Vandersloot was the last person to see the Alabama teen alive when she visited the island of Aruba on vacation. In a demented scheme to make money Vandersloot promised to lead Beth Holloway to Natalee's body, but it turned out to be a wild goose chase.
His bride-to-be is 5 months pregnant. According to Vandersloots lawyer, the murderer will be allowed to meet with the baby after it is born.
