Murder-suicide at Texas dad's daughter's sweet 16 party

Kelly Suckla, 43, a dad from Texas, shot his estranged wife to death and then killed himself with the same gun at his daughter’s 16th birthday party Saturday, Jan.19 in Grapevine, Texas. The murder-suicide took place just outside the front door of the teen girl’s grandparents’ home in Grapevine.

The estranged and murdered wife was identified by The Huffington Post as 44-year-old Kristi Suckla.

Kristi Suckla had moved into her parents’ home along with her daughter and 21-year-old son approximately two months ago.

Sgt. Robert Eberling of the Grapevine Police Department said that family members were aware that the dad, who was reportedly on good terms with his estranged wife Kristi, was going to be attending the birthday party.

No-one expected any violence.

“... it pretty much took everybody by surprise,” said Sgt. Eberling.

U.S. News reported that the couple got into an argument outside the home after which time Kelly Suckla shot and killed Kristi Suckla and then turned the gun on himself.

No-one else attending the birthday party was injured. The Sucklas previously lived in Euless, Texas.

The police investigation into the shootings is continuing.
